Sinks have certainly come a long way. The sink, and the accompanying faucet are more fashionable today than our grandmothers, or even our mothers could have imagined! You are only limited by your imagination.
Imagine a gorgeous glass sink seemingly floating upon a rod iron filigree base, this is what is called a vessel sink. Imagine washing your hands over a glass sink of shimmering gold opalescent that looks like something from Dale Chihuly’s glass studio. How about a lovely ceramic sink that has decorations reminiscent of a blue Ming vase? Is that really the Mona Lisa looking back up at your from that sink? These sinks are available in glass, painted ceramic, stone and granite, wood, copper, or mosaic. Then, there is the decision of shape of the sink, round, oval or square, or perhaps somewhere in between.
Don’t worry, if you have a Victorian home you are restoring you are in luck. The good old white ceramic pedestal sink is still alive and well, if you want one.

To Glue or Not to Glue?

My thoughts on “white glue” as an additive in concrete and hypertufa.
I have had a dozen or so emails asking about white glue as an additive in concrete and hypertufa.
I have tried it and not seen any difference in the end result. The concrete seemed to cure faster but that may have been the weather. It was during the summer and very hot out.
“Elmers” brand glue says on the label that you can use it in concrete and gives instructions. I think it said 10 oz per gal. of water. don’t take my word for it, look it up!!
I have used it as a bonding agent when pouring new concrete on top of old. First wash the old with muratic acid, rinse then paint on the white glue. It seems to help. I have seen these joints taken apart with jackhammers a couple of years later and the bond looked excellent. This was in a very harsh west coast marine application, so lets say it works good!

An indoor thermostat can control the temperature of the heat.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends that people use wood burning as a heat source whenever possible. Unlike fuels such as gasoline and coal, wood is a renewable resource. Wood fires are better for the environment because they do not produce excessive amounts of carbon dioxide like other fuels do. Large, unnatural amounts of carbon dioxide are believed to be responsible for the so-called greenhouse effect that is thought to cause global warming. Wood burns cleaner and is less expensive than other fuels as well.

There are thousands of species of Palm Trees. They are considered to be tropical in nature, but most people are not aware that cold hardy palms may be planted outside without any visible damage from temperatures as cold as -20°F. You can see this as far north as Canada and Switzerland
Palm trees, like banana trees, give your home and garden that tropical look, usually found around pools and family recreational areas. Once established, Palm Trees are relatively maintenance free and are not significantly bothered by insects and disease.
There are two basic types of Palm trees and we will tell you about the Northern and Southern Palms.
Cold Palms (Northern Palms)
Afghanistan palm - Pakistan Palm and Mazari Palm - This palm may be the coldest hardy in the world, according to authoritative doctors on the subject of Palms. Their fruit is also edible and very popular to eat in that impoverished nation. The tree grows very slowly and thrives in desert conditions.
Dwarf Palmetto or Sabal minor - Blue Palmetto is widely distributed throughout the Southeastern United States and grows about 6ft. tall in shaded locations. This Palm is very difficult to transplant from the wild.

Basically dishwashers all perform the same function, they wash dishes. Some do it more expensively and with more bells and whistles than others do. A basic dishwasher will cost less than $300.00. If you’re into higher quality appliances for you home you can spend $600.00 or more.
A basic dishwasher will come without any frills. A basic dishwasher will tend to be louder than the more expensive models and have plastic tubs. Your dishes will get a good wash with a basic dishwasher.
A mid-priced dishwasher will give you a few more frills. These dishwashers are more stylish in design than cheaper ones. They’ll run quieter and have more flexibility in loading. In the lower end you’ll still find plastic tubs.
A high end dishwasher will sometimes have the electronic touch panel hidden which keeps the dishwasher looking sleek. It will have removable top racks and generally will have stainless steel tubs. The wash your dishes will receive from a high end dishwasher will be excellent. Newer models allow you to load a month’s worth of dishwasher detergent at one time.

Conversely, if the market interest rate decreases to 4.5%, you will continue to pay the 6.5% interest rate. A Fixed-Rate Mortgage applies the same interest rate toward monthly loan payments for the life of the loan.

Nearly every pool owner would be thrilled to have their pool cleaned by a professional pool cleaner. We witness this on TV commercials all the time. The water surface of your pool will collect leaves and other debris. Clean it with a pool type leaf rake that has a net attached to it. It should have a long pole on the rake so you can reach all around the pool to scoop up surface debris.
What is the quickest method to clean your pool? Start by walking along the sides of your pool and collecting pool debris with your net. Do this a few times so that you can pick up leaves and nasty insects. It is a great idea to empty the net if the debris fills it and then return to raking to avoid dumping picked up debris back into the water.

Generally hardwood floors come pre finished, this is when the manufacturer applies a finish at the factory. This finish is generally at least four coats of ultraviolet cured urethane resin. Hardwood floors are generally easy to clean with a simple sweep of a dust mop or vacuuming. You will need to protect your hardwood floors from scratches as much as possible. Putting protective rugs under your furniture is an excellent way to prevent scratches on the floor. Hardwood floors are meant to last a lifetime.
You will want to choose a color of hardwood floor that will accent your home and home furnishings. As a rule lighter colors go with country, contemporary and casual settings. Darker colored wood floors are for formal or traditional interiors. But, of course, anything goes! Your decision should be based on your visual preference.
