Mortgage and Credit Card Companies Under the Spotlight on Consumer Charging
June 28, 2008
For the first time since May 1996 reports have indicated that wage increases have risen faster than house price inflation. According to Nationwide, “The overall picture remains one of a gently softening market”.
The signs indicate that the housing market activity is finally starting to pick up, with estate agents reporting that buyers have begun returning to the market and sellers are more willing to negotiate on prices, however transaction levels are still reported to be low compared with last year. This represents good news for buyers looking to get a property, however it stands in stark contrast to findings from the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) showing that the number of homes being repossessed has risen for the first time in seven years, from 3,070 six months ago up to 4,640 for the first half of 2005.
The sharp rise in home repossession applications by lenders adds to growing concerns that consumers are struggling with debt. Ed Stansfield of Capital Economics, said, “Today’s figures show that for a small but growing minority of borrowers levels of debt have become a problem, despite historically low interest rates." These figures for repossessions were still, according to the CML, “extremely low” compared with the early 1990s; however adverse credit, arrears and repossessions look set to rise.
Embrace Your Soul With Flowers

Embrace Your Soul With Flowers
by: Linda Gray
Be nice to yourself and indulge in one of nature’s awesome
creations. It’s true we don’t actually NEED flowers in our
daily schedules BUT since when did humans stick to what they
needed!
Giving a gift of flowers is always a thoughtful, if not
provocative, experience and is a gift that is definitely not
about money. A large bouquet from the local florist will no
doubt be beautiful and well worth the cash it costs. And
equally, the small bouquet of wildflowers lovingly collected
by an adored one will bring joy into your life.
Sprays of dried flowers and grasses can make beautiful
displays in your home over holiday seasons, or why not
everyday?
Flowers are pressed into scrapbooks and journals. They are
also pressed for their scent and many perfumes are
flower-based. Oils are extracted for natural remedies and
cosmetic applications.
Flower preparations can be time-consuming to produce and
therefore often expensive to the consumer. The absolute best
All about Tulip Gardens
June 27, 2008
As the curtain of winter lifts, tulips are one of the first flowers to take the spring stage. As the last drifts of snow seep into the soil, these bright signs of spring dance in the sunlight. However, you don’t have to wait for spring to grow tulips. Whether it lies in a bed, under a shrub, in the crevices of a rock garden or in a container, a tulip bulb is an underground flower factory just waiting to "spring up" from whatever soil it occupies.
The whole purpose of a tulip bulb is to flower. In fact, in the center of each bulb, tiny leaves cradle a baby bud. The white, onion-like bulb that surrounds the bud stores all the nutrients that the bud needs to sprout and grow. The only real help the tulip needs to grow is a generous drink of water and some soil to keep it moist.

7 Tips For Natural Glass Care

7 Tips For Natural Glass Care
by: Sally Lomax
Every home has glass in it, whether it’s wine glasses or lemonade glasses, punch bowls or flower vases. There are many different products for cleaning glass on the market, but some of them are too abrasive and will actually do damage to glassware. Here are a few tips to help you keep the glass in your house cleaner and brighter using only natural products, rather than the abrasiveness of some commercial glass cleaning products available.
1. If ammonia doesn’t get rid of a chemical build up in your glassware, smear the glass surface with Vaseline (petroleum jelly) and leave overnight, or longer. Then wipe off and wash clean.
2. Methylated spirits rubbed on the outside panes of your windows will make them shine in a way you’ve never seen before. It will also bring out the iridescence to produce a blaze of sparkle and color.
3. Many people have reported having great results cleaning their glass using toothpaste. I wouldn’t like to recommend any particular brand, so try a few and expect good results.
The Benefits of Owning an Ionic Air Purifier
June 27, 2008
Ionic air purifiers are not filter systems. Ionic air purifiers work by sending out negatively charged ions into the air of your home. The ions latch onto chemicals and particles such as dust, tobacco smoke, and pollen, causing them to become attracted to each other and to the interior surfaces of your home. The result is that they drop right out of the air. You wipe, mop, and vacuum the precipitant as part of your regular chores. This may seem like a dirty way to purify the air, but many machines are highly effective at it.
Some ionic air purifiers have fans and others don’t. Those with fans can be noisy or very quiet, depending on the brand. Those without fans rely on existing air currents ? caused by ceiling fans, human movement, and so on ? to carry the ions to the various nooks and crannies of the room. If you buy one with no fan, be sure to place the unit accordingly. If you buy one with a fan, wipe off the grille once in awhile, just as you would with a ceiling fan.
Home Loan Refinancing - What Lenders Dont Want You To Know
June 26, 2008
Refinancing lenders seems to hold all the cards. They have the money and their own system for determining which type of credit you can qualify for. What lenders don’t want you to know is that you can improve your credit rating in a matter of days.
Good Credit Factors
Good credit does not mean perfect credit. People assume a 30 day late payment means poor credit. Not true. You can still have good credit score if you have two 30 day late payments on a credit card or one 30 day late payment on a car loan within the last three years. After three years, the payment history will drop off your credit report.
While you don’t want too much debt when applying to refinance, having a credit card can help your credit score. Have at least one credit card and make regular payments on it. If you are worried about the interest charges, pay off the balance every month. Those regular payments establish your credit payment history, a large factor in determining rates.

Home Improvements - The Fun Stuff
by: Raynor James
Planning home improvements necessarily involves addressing numerous practical matters. That doesn’t mean you should ignore the fun stuff!
The Fun Stuff
The first thing to plan for in home improvements is the practical stuff. The second thing you need to talk to family members about is the fun stuff.
Most people have colors they like and colors they don’t like. They have things that interest them and things that don’t. Get your family to talk to you about those things. Each person’s bedroom, or bedroom area, should reflect his or her taste and interests.
A boy who likes green, football, and backpacking can easily have a sage green (it “reads” as more neutral than many shades of green if re-sale of your home is a concern) room with cream woodwork, cream interior shutters, and cream ceiling. Framed football posters and wilderness scenes might be pleasant. Bedding with a rustic motif (rows of stylized pine trees?) from L.L. Bean or Plow and Hearth would work right in. Add a touch or two of a bright color like red or yellow.

Home Improvements - Making Decisions
by: Raynor James
If you have a family, planning home improvements should be a family matter. Still, you want to stick to ideas that work.
Ideas That Work
We’ve all seen families who get along well most of the time and families who are constantly at odds with each other. One common denominator among families who get along are homes that work for them. Let’s talk about ideas seen more than once in homes that work. It may help you explore what will work for you.
Many families with school age children have a computer and homework area near the kitchen. It’s often a computer desk and the breakfast area table. This is usually sandwiched between the kitchen and family room, and all three areas are open to each other. It’s an easy area for parents to make themselves available to help and supervise the children while they themselves perhaps cook, talk, read, or have a cup of tea (or other beverage) before or after dinner.
Family rooms are also great for TV, movies, and computer games. A finished basement provides an ideal place for a “home theater” for the same sorts of things, but supervision becomes tougher.
How to Grow Apples
June 26, 2008
The first thing you need to grow apples is a long-term commitment. Growing apples takes considerable time and quite a bit of work. Still, if one of your fondest childhood memories is the apple tree in your backyard, producing your own apples is a satisfying part of gardening.
Site Selection
Before you begin growing apples, make sure you have room for at least two trees. Typically, two apple trees bear enough fruit to keep a family of four in good supply. Apple trees need to grow in full sun, which means they need at least six hours of sunlight each day. Even dwarf varieties need to be spaced at least 8-feet apart. It is also essential to provide your trees with good drainage. Although apple trees tolerate a variety of soil types, they prefer sandy loam to sandy clay loam with a pH of about 6.5.
