How To Plant Your Trees And Shrubs - Successfully
by: Paul Guzman
By: Paul Guzman - These steps are designed for the lower elevations of the desert southwest. You can read it online at: http://guzmansgreenhouse.com/successful-planting.htm
1. Water - This is the biggest problems of all. You will need to water all trees and shrubs on a daily basis for at least the first 2-3 weeks after planting them. 3-5 gallons or water per 5 ga. tree. This is very critical during the summer months.
2. To ensure successful planting do NOT fertilize right after planting your tree or shrub. Use a good root stimulator to stimulate root growth. Do not fertilize during the winter months. Use a good all purpose tree or shrub fertilizer right after the last frost ( usually after march in the southwest ) Water about twice per month during December, January and March. Typically you should fertilize once in the spring, summer and fall.
3. Most southwestern soils lack acid, use a good compost with some acidity to help root development during planting.
The Benefits of HEPA Air Purifiers
June 30, 2008
The military designed the first HEPA filter in the 1940s for use in the Manhattan Project, when safety from free-floating nuclear material was a primary concern. Today, HEPA air purifiers are very widely used to remove dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and other airborne particles. They are perhaps the most tried-and-true method of air cleaning to date. The best part about HEPA air purifiers is that they emit no byproducts or secondary pollutants such as ozone.
The Department of Energy continues to be the sole certifying body for all HEPA filters. The DOE has strict standards. All HEPA filters must be able to catch at least 95% of particles as small as 0.3 micrometers. If you are shopping for HEPA air purifiers, beware of "HEPA-type" or "HEPA-like" filters. They did not pass DOE muster on their ability to filter air.
HEPA Air purifiers work by drawing in air via a fan. Large particles get trapped in the folds of the filter, while small particles and chemicals attach to the charcoal matter in the filter.
Some fans have a straight design whereby the air is drawn in from the back and blown out through the front. These units clean the air very quickly and are good for aiming at your bed or sitting area.
Owners Dont be Scammed!
June 30, 2008
Scam artists pose as potential renters everyday on many different “by owner” websites. Why? Because it works! Learn to spot common warning signs of many rental scams.
Everyday individuals approach property owners using the internet via email posing as renters in an attempt to swindle unsuspecting owners out of large sums of money. These scams will continue as long as they fool a small portion of property owners. The best defense against rental schemes is to be informed and remain alert. It is important to know that Cashier’s Checks, Money Orders, Certified Checks, as well as Personal Checks can all be forged. Scammers are very sophisticated and even some banks are fooled by forged documents, until they try to collect the funds.
There are several WARNING SIGNS that indicate that a rental inquiry may be a scam. Note that a fraudulent rental lead may exhibit only one or possibly none of these warning signs during the first contact. You may have several back and forth communications before you receive a warning sign. Below you will find the most common warning signs of scams.
Growing Aloes

Growing Aloes
by: Eurica Teichmann
Aloes are easy going succulent plants that need very little maintenance. When growing your aloes it is good to know what the aloe habitat of that aloe species is and try to imitate that as much as possible. On the other hand, most aloes for sale are hybrids and even if they were a species, it is seldom possible to get the right identification.
There are a few rules that can be followed for any aloe.
Aloe hybrids are much easier than aloe species in that the hybrid has a wider choice of growing conditions inherited from at least two different aloes species.
In the wild aloe habitat most species occur on slopes or ridges. Follow this pattern by giving aloe plants plenty large and small stones around the roots for drainage. Good drainage is essential; as is humus and old manure. In the wild, leaves and dry grass get blown amongst the rocks and stones. Add some Dolomite gravel it will not harm the plants as it dissolves slowly so that it gives a good calcium/magnesium balance which is appreciated by most, and essential to some aloes. If dolomite is not available, sprinkle roughly one half teaspoon Epsom salts and a full teaspoon lime around the plants at monthly intervals for 3-4 months in the rainy season.
The Hidden Costs Of Picture Frames

The Hidden Costs Of Picture Frames
by: Linda Harrison
This may come as a surprise to you, but I love picture frames. Anything that can take an ordinary picture and make it look like it’s worth 10 times it’s true value is a powerful thing. Some people spend their entire lives collecting awards, degrees, and family photos only to have them rot away in their basements collecting dust. Are you one of those people? I didn’t think so.
Having the right frame around a picture, degree, or award can make a world of difference and can turn an ordinary piece of paper into a crowing achievement. In fact, I have one item that I value so much that I have had it custom framed for $130. It was worth it to me as I’m going to have this item for the rest of my life. While $130 did not break my bank account, I was amazed to later find that there are lots of other better deals that you can find on picture frames that don’t cost an arm and a leg.
Here are three ways you can save big bucks on picture frames.
Home Loans ? Lenders Continue to Offer High-Risk Loans
June 29, 2008
Home prices in the Untied States continue to soar, and the remarkable run of real estate as the "must have" investment continues. The median price of a new home, which only recently crossed the $200,000 barrier, is now $215,000. The high prices of homes haven’t deterred buyers; sales in June reached a record number of units. There is some concern in Washington about the explosive real estate market, and Federal banking regulators issued lending guidelines in May that urged lenders to be more cautious when lending money for home purchases. How have lenders responded to these guidelines?
They have made it even easier to borrow money.
It seems rather odd for lenders to make it easier to lend money after having been warned that they’ve been lending money too easily, but that’s exactly what has happened. Some banks have lowered the minimum credit score necessary to obtain a home loan or increased the percentage of income that may be spent on a mortgage. Others have introduced loans that require no proof of income. Still others have begun offering a wider variety of no-interest loans and dangerous Option ARM loans, which can actually raise the principal of a loan after a buyer makes a payment. Why are lenders easing loan restrictions after being warned that they are too lenient?

Dinnerware Materials

Choosing Your Dinnerware
Dog Days of Summer

Here are a few tips to keep your garden and a few specific problems from getting away from you during the month of August gardening. Your lawn, again usually three things or any combination of them may be the culprit(s) for making your lawn or patches of your lawn turn brown.
Check water first. It may be that your sprinkler is just not applying enough water to certain areas of your lawn. Remember if you can see your footprints in the lawn after you walk on it then it is time to get water on it asap. If the patchy brown areas of your lawn feel slightly “warmer” than the green areas of your lawn it usually means that particular area is not receiving enough moisture. It is best to core holes in this area, which will help deliver water right to the roots. The second item you may want to check will be for grubs.
There will be no mistaking these creatures. They are usually about the size of your thumb, creamy white with a brown head. They will feed on the grass roots to store up for winter and “hibernate” and emerge next year as adults.
The Benefits of Ozone Air Purifiers
June 28, 2008
Ozone air purifiers or "ozone generators" are known for their effectiveness at reducing and masking the smells of new carpet and acrolein, a chemical partly responsible for the noxious odor of second-hand tobacco smoke. There are two types of ozone generators.
Direct ozone generators work by intentionally producing ozone that goes out to cancel out some chemicals in the air of your home. For bars, fire restoration jobs, and other major odor issues, nothing beats a direct ozone generator. When possible, vacate the premises, including pets, plants, art, and important items that are made of rubber. Seal the building and run the generator for a few days. Thoroughly ventilate the interior before reentering.
Indirect ozone generators are part and parcel with ionic air purification systems. Ionic air purifiers produce and send out negatively charged ions into the air, causing chemicals and particles to drop to the floor and surfaces. You clean off the surfaces as part of your regular chores. Ozone is one byproduct of this process.
