Gardening for Birds Part 2

March 28, 2008

We’ve had some well needed rain this past week, though it makes it a bit difficult to get chores done outside.

We’re past the last frost date for my area so now I can get some planting done.

I love to play in the dirt.

Mr. robin sits close by waiting for me to move elsewhere so he can gulp down the freshly dug earthworms.

I’ll through a couple his way from time to time.

It’s fun to see how many he can hold in his bill when he is bringing them back to feed the hatchlings.

I have never seen as many white crowned sparrows. This year they are everywhere in the yard.

Hummers have arrived so that is always a treat to see.

Yolanda had to point out a Male cardinal at one of the feeders.

One of the feeding stations is near her window, she enjoys the activity.

UNDER THE CANOPY.

A couple of weeks ago we took a walk through a nice wooded park.

Boy are things changing under the tree canopy.

Flowers have come and gone while others are just starting to bloom.

What You Should Know About Carpet Dye

What You Should Know About Carpet Dye
 by: John Murray

If you want your carpets to take on a new look and don’t want to spend the money to replace them you should consider carpet dye. It’s a low cost alternative that will give your carpet a total face lift.

Both nylon and wool carpets can be dyed. Polyester, polypropylene, and acrylic cannot be dyed. The current color of your carpet will determine what color you can dye your carpet. For example if your carpet is red and yellow dye and you would get an orange carpet. Of if your carpet was blue and you added red you would get a purple carpet. White and light beige carpet can be dyed any color but you can never get a deep black. You can never go lighter when dying carpet, only darker.

There are two common methods used to dye carpet. One is by spraying the dye using a want that produces between 150 and 500 pounds of pressure. If you are performing a total color change this method can have some issues with penetration.

By analyzing online quotes, you can find a reasonable mortgage loan even with poor credit. Loan approval is then just a matter of filling out your online application and reviewing some final paperwork.

High Risk Home Mortgage Lenders

High risk home mortgage lenders, also called sub prime lenders, provide a service for people with poor credit. Through slightly higher mortgage rates and fees, lenders are able to offer mortgage loans to high risk lenders. There are predatory lenders who charge extremely high rates and fees, but you can avoid them with comparison shopping.

When To Consider Buying Custom Area Rugs
 by: John Murray

Most times finding an area rug is no problem. A little bit of shopping and you normally find just what you are looking for. However sometimes things don’t go as planned and you become very frustrated at not finding what you need. So when should you consider buying custom area rugs?

1. Size

Sometimes you will require an area rug that is not a size that is readily available. Some houses have odd shaped rooms that are just impossible to find an area rug off the shelf. If this is the case you might want to consider choosing custom area rugs so you get the size you need. A custom size might cost a little more but it will be a perfect fit.

2. Color

If you are trying to match your home decor and your colors are not traditional colors you might have a tough time getting a match that works or compliments your decor. This might be a perfect time to order a custom area rug. New color matching machines can easily get you an exact color match or a complimentary color match. You can choose shades that are lighter and darker depending on what you are trying to achieve. Your room will look awesome with a perfect color match!

A Look at Luxury Down Comforters

March 27, 2008

For those striving to create a bedroom retreat, a haven from the rest of the world, luxury is a necessity. Along with good color choices and fine furniture, a lavishly dressed bed is top priority. One of the most important ingredients for an extravagant bed is a luxury down comforter, and price is no object.

Down comforters are made from a variety of materials. They can be made from the down of ducks or geese. The most luxurious, though, are those made from goose down. Goose down is heavier and produces warmer, fluffier, and more luxurious down comforters.

Different geese produce different qualities of down. Eiderdown comes from the Eider duck of Iceland. As you can imagine in such a cold climate, the Eider duck has a very full and luxurious down, resulting in a warm and fine comforter. Eiderdown has to be hand harvested from Eider duck nests, making it difficult to acquire. At around $7000, its price reflects that quality and rarity.

Siberian goose down is considered the best, and is available for around $1000. Siberian goose down is known to have superior warming power, and is fluffier than all other varieties.

Why You Need To Use Carpet Padding

Why You Need To Use Carpet Padding
 by: John Murray

You’ve found the perfect carpet and you are thinking about keeping your cost down by using either the old carpet padding or non at all. Stop! You’ll regret this decision very quickly. There are good reasons why you need to use carpet padding!

Using your old carpet padding isn’t a wise decision either because it will have broken down with age, in fact when you lift the carpet you may find it is actually crumbling. Most times it will have little or no actual padding left to it.

The one you’ll notice the most is the comfort when you walk on the carpet. Just by walking on the carpet you create a hundred pounds of pressure per square inch on the carpet.

The under lay or carpet padding will cushion and help to reduce the pressure on the carpet. The decrease in pressure will help make the carpet feel better, thicker and softer as well as more spring. Think of walking on carpet that has been attached to concrete and then walking on home carpeting. There’s quite a difference in comfort!

Plants To Grow Old With or The Constant Battle

March 27, 2008

Following are a few paragraphs about the on going battle I had with some of my plants!

Way back when I was just starting to garden I excitedly gathered starts from here and there, and several times, when I asked people for a particular start, they, with raised eyebrow, would ask me if I was sure I wanted that plant as it could be invasive.

Naively, and just so thrilled to get a new start (I had garden fever bad Ha!), I said that wasn’t a problem.

Wow! Was I ever clueless!

I had a lot to learn as to just how INVASIVE some plants could be and how hard some were to kill out.

Following are a few short tales of the battles I waged with those wonderful starts I collected years ago.

Horseradish will be the first I’ll mention, as it was one of the first starts I acquired. I found it to be a very worthy opponent.
