Easy Landscaping and Curb Appeal for Florida Homes

Easy Landscaping and Curb Appeal for Florida Homes
by: Bob Lipply
The idea that an appealing outside is your best offense for intriguing potential buyers is based on the simple concept that first impressions really count. The great thing about learning some key elements of landscaping is that you can apply them to a home that you are just settling into, as well as one you are about to sell. For those who are selling or buying real estate in Tampa Bay Florida, some extra curb appeal advice will go a long way.
Florida is popular for nature-lovers. Instead of trying to keep up with garden hobbyists, present a clean, green impression, rather than a mini-arboretum. The decluttered impression that you want for the inside, should apply to the outside. Imagine a buyer coming to view your Tampa Bay Florida real estate house and all they can think is either, “how will I keep up with all those tropical flower beds?” or “how long will it take me to undo all of this?” Not that you should tear down all your hard work from a spectacular garden; just be sure to have it freshly pruned, trimmed and weeded for buyers, so they don’t feel like they have to have a green thumb if they want to buy your home.
Securing UPVC Door locks with Multipoint Door Lock Cylinders

Securing UPVC Door locks with Multipoint Door Lock Cylinders
by: Graham Bitchenor
The sight of a uPVC door on your home immediately acts as a potent visual deterrent. Burglars know that not only are these doors more secure than their wooden counterparts, they are also fitted with multipoint locks: a locking mechanism that secures from several points (from a basic 3 point, to the ultimate 7 or 10 point).
An experienced burglar can force a wooden door open in a matter of seconds. They only have one security point (the mortice lock) situated in the centre of the door. The same potential burglar, faced with a multipoint locking mechanism, does not know where the door’s weak areas are - their job is 3 to 10 times more difficult. For this reason, homes fitted with security such as this are unlikely to be targeted as they cannot be accessed by traditional methods.
The New Threat - Lock Cylinders
Due to increased car security, which makes modern cars virtually impossible to break into, homes have come under increased threat of burglary in order that keys for vehicles can be stolen. Because of the improvements in uPVC doors and multipoint locks, burglars have had to become increasingly more sophisticated in their approach - with the potential rewards of a vehicle to drive away in being a huge incentive.
Choosing Interior Doors
December 25, 2007
When it’s time to decorate - whether it’s for a brand new home or redecorating the family manse, one thing that’s often overlooked as a ’style choice’ is the interior doors. After all, a bedroom door is a bedroom door, right?
And yet, the style of door that you choose can make a subtle, definitive difference throughout your home. I know that part of the reason that I’m drawn to old Victorian homes and triple-deckers is their beautiful hardwood doors in so many different styles. Most of today’s new construction features bland, hollow-core interior doors with plain brass knobs - no character at all.
Picture your living and dining area divided by an elegant Victorian style double pocket sliding door. In places where a door that opens into or out of a room take up too much space, pocket interior doors are a lovely, elegant choice that recalls bygone years. Pocket doors slide into recessed ‘pockets’ fit into the wall on one or both sides of a doorway. They were often used in turn-of-the-century housing, and are a major selling point in many old homes. When choosing interior doors, why not look to the past for a choice that brings the understated elegance of the past to your home?
What is a Capped Mortgage?
December 25, 2007
A capped mortgage is a variable rate mortgage with a capped limit beyond which the rate paid will not exceed.
Mortgages are available in a number of different interest rate options, one of which is the capped rate.
A cap means that there will be a limit to any increase in the variable rates for a selected term. The mortgage rate charged on your account can not exceed this rate. However if the variable rate drops below your capped rate you will benefit, as your repayments will be calculated using the lower variable rate. Capped mortgages enable you to place a limit on your monthly mortgage commitments and still benefit from falls in interest rates.
Capped rate mortgages put a limit on the highest rate of interest you will have to pay on your mortgage over an agreed introductory period. This means you’re protected to a certain extent if interest rates rise, and if they stay low you will still benefit from the lower interest rates. It’s basically a combination of the fixed rate mortgage concept with a standard variable rate mortgage, allowing you to profit from decreasing interest rates.
Warm up with Firewood

Warm up with Firewood
by: Kim Filler
There are as many types of firewood on the market, as there are fireplaces. If you have been heating your home with firewood, you are likely educated in the various types of wood available. If you are considering a wood-burning stove to heat your home or cottage, the following is a summary of the most popular types of wood used.
Ash, Oak, Beech, Birch, Hickory and Hard Maple are by far the best types of wood to use. They each produce a high amount of heat, which is one of the most important considerations. Each of these species burn extremely well, and they are all relatively easy to split. Another feature of these types is that they produce very little heavy smoke and very few sparks.
Aside from the species mentioned above, Soft Maple, Black Cherry, and Yellow Pine are the next best to use. The Soft Maple and Black Cherry each produce a decent amount of heat, but they both burn well and are easy to split. They also produce a low amount of heavy smoke and sparks. Yellow Pine is also quite a decent wood to use. The only significant drawback with Pine is that it tends to smoke a lot, and it may not be ideal for burning inside your home.
Agio Patio Furniture
December 25, 2007
The fresh air of the early spring solstice and the celebration song of the earth call us to leave the safety and comfort of our indoor winter haven. We venture forth to explore the new life that is springing up all around us, and habitually look for a place to relax and absorb the sounds and smells swirling through the air. Agio Patio Furniture may be just the answer to true enjoyment of the new season’s arrival.
We all have our ideas of what the "perfect" outdoor furniture setting looks like. Some enjoy a rustic outdoors woodsy look that will endure the weather with stoic indifference. Others fancy a Victorian wicker patio set that combines comfort and appearance into an attractive setting. Still others go all out for a grand weave of grace and charm that envelopes the user in a rapture of comfort. What do you consider to be the "perfect" outdoor setting? Whatever your personal preference, there’s Agio outdoor furniture on the market that will fit your ideal setting.
Patio furniture sets the tone for your backyard experience. A rustic, wooden patio set invites the family outdoors for an evening of roughhousing and fun. Meanwhile, across town, an Agio patio furniture set begs a father to fire up the barbeque grill for a neighborhood cookout.

The Home Warranty Doctor Is In!
by: Aaron Hoos
Would you go to your real estate agent for advice on the stock market? Probably not. While your real estate agent does help you with a different kind of investment - your home - that doesn’t make them automatically qualified to give you advice on the latest IPO from Wall Street.
When you want good information you go to the authority. You go to the expert on the topic! Want investment information? See an investment specialist. Got a cough and fever? See a doctor. Want to buy a car? Go to the dealership.
But when you’re looking around at many choices, which is the right one to choose? Which one, among your many choices, is the authority on the information you want?
In the home warranty industry it’s hard to tell. You type in “home warranty” in a search engine and several companies come up. Who do you choose? Which one will tell you the information you need to make good decisions and which ones will try to sell you something you don’t need?
Bamboo Flooring - An Eco-Friendly Alternative to Hardwood Flooring and Easy to Fit

Bamboo Flooring - An Eco-Friendly Alternative to Hardwood Flooring and Easy to Fit
by: Chirs Elliott
The modern, environmentally friendly and durable alternative to hardwood is bamboo flooring. Being a grass, as opposed to timber, gives bamboo the edge as a not only a building product (being strong and at the same time flexible), but also as a sustainable resource: wood takes approximately 15-20 years to reach maturity, whereas the non-harmful harvesting of bamboo takes a mere 3 to 5 years. Bamboo has traditionally been the material of choice in most of Asia, and it is only recently that its benefits and environmental properties have begun to be utilised more fully in the west.
The growth in popularity in recent years for wood flooring has increased the burden on already stretched timber resources. Bamboo flooring shares many of the properties that attract discerning customers to hardwood; it’s low maintenance, hard wearing, and looks contemporary while having a timeless appeal; but it is without any of the environmental concerns that are attached to its hardwood counterpart.
Due to its flexibility as a material, bamboo flooring has a broad appeal that can be manipulated to a suit a variety of styles. Its range of applications varies from period homes to offices, designer hotels and bars.
