If you have never grown vegetables before the first thing that you need to decide is where to plant them in your garden. Most vegetables need 6-8 hours of sunlight a day although greens can manage with less. Choose a site in an area that will not be shaded by buildings or trees and one that is near to a water supply. You will not want to have to cart water any further than absolutely necessary. Protect the site with a fence to keep out dogs, rabbits and other animals which can damage your crops.
To grow vegetables successfully the soil needs to be fertile, deep, friable and well drained. Unless you are very fortunate your soil is unlikely to meet these criteria, but over a period of time you will be able to increase the fertility of the soil by following good cultivation practices.
The first task is to dig over the whole of your site. Dig to a depth of 8-10 inches and continue working the soil making it loose and friable. Do not dig when the soil is too wet. How do you know? Squeeze together a handful of soil. If it sticks together in a ball and does not readily crumble under slight pressure by the thumb and finger, it is too wet.

Who wouldn’t want a goose down comforter and a pretty duvet cover to keep warm at night? There is nothing that holds your body heat in and keeps the cold out like goose down. Goose down comforters are made with the down sewn in baffles between specially designed fabric. The feathers do a good job of keeping the goose warm and they do the same thing for us. You will usually find the comforters in white and you want to protect them, so add a pretty duvet cover and your bedroom is well on its way to being beautiful as well as cozy. When it comes to goose down comforters and duvet covers, price is an issue. You can find both at any price, but the lesser expensive ones are not as warm because the goose feathers will fall down to the edges creating thin layers on top for you to sleep under. This is not good for a cold winter night. If your comforter is constructed correctly, the goose feathers will stay within the baffles and you will continue to have a fluffy warm comforter. Watch for sales and end of the year clearance prices for a great savings on real goose down comforters.

Water damage can come in many varieties, from a spilling a single bucket to a complete basement flooding. How you approach your carpet clean up will also depend on the quality of the water if it is clean water, like rain water, or is it from a sewer backup. Each situation should be evaluated on an individual basis, but here are some general guidelines.
First the obvious try to stop the water at the source to eliminate further damage. Check behind the walls as water may be trapped in the insulation or behind the vapor barrier. Next remove all furniture from the room, lift up the edges of the carpet and remove the uderpadding and discard. Extract as much of the water as possible, try to do this soon as you can, as bacteria and mold can set in quickly. Note - depending on the size and scope of damage it may be worth calling in a professional. After you have extracted as much of the water as possible treat the carpet with a disinfectant. Finally prop up the carpet to let airflow get under the carpet and put fans throughout the room to speed up the drying process.

Glues (or adhesives) are designed to stick two things together. Technically speaking, glues are natural and adhesives are synthetic, but for our purposes, we’ll call them both “glue.” Because there is no “universal” glue that can stick anything to anything in any condition, there are several “general purpose” glues (they stick a lot of things to a lot of things) and a whole bunch of “special purpose” glues (they stick certain things to certain things).
The best first step when picking glue is to understand:
- what you are sticking to what
- under what conditions do you need it to stick
- how quickly must it reach full strength
- how strong must the glue be
- what properties (clear, able to be sanded, etc.) must the glue have when it is dry
The following are different types of glues:
- White Glue: Non-toxic, odorless, nonflammable and dries clear in under an hour. Good for paper, wood, cloth, pottery and more.
- Yellow Glue: A higher quality derivative of white glue that dries stronger and is more resistant to moisture.

A latex mattress is not exactly the same thing as a memory foam bed. Latex is a naturally biodegradable sap from the rubber trees of Indonesia and Malaysia. It is collected in a process not unlike getting maple syrup from a tree. This liquid latex is shipped in drums to different parts of Europe and the United States where it is then turned into mattresses, toppers, and pillows. Since it is 100% natural and renewable; it is hypoallergenic and breathable because of the open cell structure to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Latex does not have the detrimental effects on the environment as other materials do because of the renewable properties. Bacteria or mold and mildew cannot live in latex mattresses, making them great for kid’s rooms. Studies prove that latex is three times more resistant to dust mites than traditional mattresses. Most memory foam beds have some form of self recovery foam. It may or may not be latex. Some people are severely allergic to latex. Be sure you ask exactly what your mattress is made of before you purchase.
