Ten Simple Steps to Taking Cuttings
by: Fran Barnwell
There are several different types of cuttings that you can take from plants - the most common are softwood, semi-ripe and hardwood. These refer to how woody and therefore how old the plant stem is.
Softwood cuttings are taken from the youngest part of the stem, and are the easiest and quickest to take root. This makes them ideal for anyone trying this for the first time.
Softwood cuttings are taken in May and June from the new growth of the plant. They root easily - between 4 and 8 weeks - but can wilt and die if they lose too much moisture, so they have to be kept warm and moist. And the best way to do this, if you don’t have a propagator, is to put the pot inside a polythene bag.
Some experts recommend using hormone rooting powder to encourage rooting, others say it is not necessary. I have taken cuttings both using rooting powder and without using it and I have had successes and failures with both. So give it a try and see what happens.

The Benefits of Real Estate Investing
by: Ken Smith
Real estate investing is increasing at a staggering rate these days. More and more individuals are learning that real estate investments can offer wonderful earning potential. Real estate investing is a process which has many attractive qualities that make it a viable money-producing opportunity. There are a number of benefits that go along with purchasing real estate investments and the following paragraphs will highlight some of these benefits. As you will see these attributes make it quite apparent why individuals are becoming interested in investment opportunities of this type.
Build Equity in the Property
For those individuals who are looking to invest in real estate on a long-term scale, there are certain benefits to doing so. When individuals purchase real estate and hold onto it for awhile, they are ultimately able to build a good deal of equity in the home they are purchasing as an investment property. Equity is a beneficial aspect for the homeowners as the more equity a property has, the more that it adds to the net worth thereof. This is an important and frequently cited reason why individuals do choose to invest in real estate and maintain the property as an investment for a long period of time thereafter.
Grow Organic Vegetables
November 27, 2007
There are more reasons than ever why anybody with access to a few square feet of the outdoors should grow their own organic vegetables.
You may be shocked at how much of the produce at your local supermarket has been genetically modified. Some estimates now put this at over 50%. While there is no strong evidence that genetically modified foods are immediately harmful to your health, there are no long term studies either. Do you want to take that risk?
Let’s take a look at pesticides and fertilizers. Farmers no longer use crop rotation or natural manures to improve soil fertility, so they are forced to use ever increasing amounts of chemicals to improve yields and multiple pesticides to protect the weakened plants. Pesticides penetrate deeply into the leaves of plants and pestiside residues remain even after you have scrubbed them.
To quote from The Environmental Protection Agency ? "Pesticides are designed to kill pests. Many pesticides can also pose risks to people. The health effects of pesticides depend on the type of pesticide. Some, such as the organophosphates and carbamates, affect the nervous system. Others may irritate the skin or eyes. Some pesticides may be carcinogens. Others may affect the hormone or endocrine system in the body."
Decorating Your Kitchen With Accessories
November 27, 2007
Just like a nice outfit, your kitchen can benefit from accessories! If you are thinking about redecorating but don’t have a lot of dough to put into your kitchen, try simply adding some accessories in a matching theme or color and see how it transforms the room!
Now before you rush out to the store, you should probably decide what sort of theme you are going for. Do you want the look of old Italy? How about a cottage theme? Why not try a country style kitchen? You will want to buy different accessories depending on the theme you choose.
If you can’t quite put your finger on exactly what you want, look in magazines and decorating books or surf the internet to get a flavor of the accessories you would like to see in your kitchen. Once you have found a style you like, you can purchase accessories close to those you see in the magazine or book. Color choices, of course, should compliment the main color in the room.
Sometimes, you can just rearrange the accessories you already have to create a whole different look. It is recommended to group your accessories in odd numbers rather than even numbers. Different heights and textures are also attractive.

What is an Offset Mortgage?
November 27, 2007
An offset mortgage is very similar to a current account mortgage - but instead of having everything all in one account, all accounts are held separately.
The offset mortgage concept treats your money as one giant pot, with each element (mortgage, savings, current account etc) separate to the rest. The result is basically a giant overdraft, although it behaves differently.
Offset mortgages are where the interest on your mortgage is reduced by the funds in both your savings accounts and your current accounts. The more you have in your savings account, the less interest you pay on your mortgage, which helps you to repay your mortgage faster and more cheaply in the long term. Your part of the deal is that you don’t receive any interest on your savings or your current account.
The interest is work out by taking the state of each account separately and offsetting them against the others so that you can benefit from your savings and pay less interest. A current account mortgage allows you to benefit in the same way, except it also acts a bank account so your salary goes into the same account that your mortgage is in.

7 Tips to Help you Select the Right Apartment
by: Paul Smith
Finding the right apartment that fits all of your needs and desires can seem like a very daunting task. There are many factors to consider, and there is a seemingly infinite amount of apartments available. However, following these 7 tips can make your apartment search go a lot more smoothly. The more information you know about an apartment, the easier it can be to eliminate choices and ultimately find your dream apartment.
1. Find out how much the rent is, and all the financial details therein. This is very important for comparing apartments. Some apartments may have low initial rents, but may be able to raise the price of rent over time. Additionally, find out what types of financial responsibilities you have. Some apartments may require that tenants pay for certain utilities, while other apartments don’t. When comparing prices, make sure you know all of the costs.
2. See what kind of changes you can make to your apartment. Some landlords allow their tenants to paint walls, or change certain appliances or carpeting. Depending on what you want to accomplish with your apartment, this may be a very important question. Some apartments may not even allow their tenants to put holes in the walls in order to hang pictures.
Rent a Town Home in Orlando, Florida for LESS than Hotel
November 26, 2007
When you venture to Orlando, Davenport, or Kissimmee, Florida, why mess with crowded hotels, dirty rooms, and tons of tourists? You are coming to see the theme parks of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World, not to compete with the many other people who will be visiting the Central Florida area as well. That’ why you need to look into booking a reservation for home town suites! Not only are they comfortable and easy to live in, they are low cost and a luxury to come back to!
Why you should rent them:
1. Home town suites are roomy ? Think about stuffing yourself and your kids and your spouse in one or two rooms at a hotel. No fun. Not only is this not practical when it comes to prices because it ends up costing you so much money to rent multiple rooms, but it isn’t practical for your sanity! You need a break from everyone now and then and the room in a town home suite will do just the trick.
Securing Home Water Supplies; Conservation of Water Planning
November 26, 2007
Generally when it rains the water runs off the house and yards into the gutter and into pipes or storm drains which feed it into the river, stream or ocean. This conventional approach is problematic in that many of the countries regions are in severe drought. As we expand our population base we will see issues where the growth and water usage far exceed the regional annual rainfalls. This will indeed over tax the water supplies and cause issues with exacerbated droughts and lengthy recoveries. Eventually if kept unchecked we will be in perennial drought in most of our nation.
In Waukesha, Wisconsin a company named Bielinshi Homes has a more conservative approach. The rain water or snow melt running off the home is send into the soil through the surrounding shrubbery and sinks into the ground water table. Using a local swale, prairie or wetland type scenario the water is recaptured and reused as ground water filtered by the soil and taken back out by use of wells. Also of importance in the use of bioswales is that it is cheaper to install than pipes or storm drains with a massive rain gutter system. Landscape maintenance is also reduced to a large degree and the water is retained in the region rather than starting its long journey to the sea.

Select Your Style Of Modern Railing Designs
by: Adam Peters
When you have made your house, you had long discussions with your family members, consultants, architects, and the builder. The discussions continued over breakfasts, lunches and dinners, during the weekends, on your shopping trips and holidays too. You are not going to spoil the result of this by having a bad job of deck railing. Therefore select your railing systems as you would have selected everything in your house, with care and love.
Select Modern Railings To Suit Modern Lifestyle
The items you should consider when selecting your railing systems can be summarized as follows.
1. Your lifestyle: A large porch, a larger sit out, verdant lawns, large spending power, a two or three car garage, and a big house, certainly means that you will not be having the painted wooden posts and wooden railing at least for deck area. (may be it is acceptable for the compound fencing) Such railing would look incongruent with your lifestyle.
