Glass Deck Railings - Where Class Should Be Visible
 by: Adam Peters

Add Sparkle To Space - Use Glass Railings

Glass railings with some transparency and a lot reflection from glass can create a different kind of atmosphere to a place that has been lit up brightly. If you see a Dubai gold mart for example, you will be able to see lot of glass railing in market. The well-lit mart becomes alive with reflection from gold and the use of glass everywhere, including the railings, accentuates the feeling of fun of shopping. The complete reflection from all surfaces adds to the glitter of gold there. If you use wood or any other railings there, the effect will not be as electric.

Customized Solutions - Glass Railings

Glass railings are never available as ready made material that can be cut and fitted as required. When you wish to use glass railings, the idea is to accentuate the atmosphere of the whole place and hence you may have to consider the all the factors including the lighting. The holistic approach has to be applied to the whole place rather than just fitting the glass railings.

Moss on Lawns

September 25, 2007

Just about right now, we start to see moss on lawns and the plaintive cry goes up, "How do we stop it?"

The first thing to understand is that moss is not going to survive in a healthy lawn. The existence of moss is a symptom that the lawn is not in good shape.

Thicken up the turf. Thin grass allows moss to thrive. Apply two pounds of grass seed per thousand square feet of lawn every fall to thicken up the lawn and mow existing turf at the highest mower setting.

Moss also tends to invade lawns with fertility problems so the second thing to do is feed your existing lawn. Ensure it is getting a full two pounds of Nitrogen per thousand square feet and check how to do this on websites or at your favourite garden centre.

Feeding lawns at rates higher than two pounds per square foot tends to produce lush grass that overgrows and is more attractive to insects.

Overfeeding is also a major cause of thatch (note that thatch is another symptom of poor lawn management).

Advantages Of Mortgage Pre-Approval

September 25, 2007

There are several advantages to getting mortgage pre-approval before looking for a home.

Being pre-approved for a loan lets you know how much you can borrow towards a home, your agent can help you find a home within the loan amount you’re pre-approved for, and a seller of a home is more likely to accept your offer than someone who has not been pre-approved for a loan yet.

Your lender will review your credit, financial, and employment information during the mortgage pre-approval process after you fill out an application.

Once you qualify for a loan, you will receive a mortgage approval letter. It will contain a maximum loan amount you’re approved for and how much time you have to use the loan. This is your bank’s guarantee of the amount they will lend you toward the purchase of a home.

When you are ready to negotiate a price for a home, the seller will be more willing to accept your offer because you already have financing available. A seller would be more reluctant to accept an offer from someone who doesn’t have the money yet to buy the home, because the offer can fall through if the buyer can’t come up with the money at the time of closing.

Selecting A Canopy
 by: John Rivers

A canopy can add a touch of sophistication as well as provide shelter from the elements. A canopy should provide optimum shade and also be a stylish extension your living space. A canopy can help you create your very own outdoor room. There is a wide choice of colours, styles and models to choose from so that your canopy will be a perfect feature for your garden. Whether you want it to be an eye-catching feature or to blend in with the rest of your house and garden there is bound to be one that suits your tastes.

A canopy has to be designed and built to cope with the demands of life outdoors. It needs to be tough and stable to ensure that it will look great for years to come - no matter what the weather. A canopy needs to have strong frames and should have casings manufactured from heavy-duty aluminium that will not bend, twist or buckle during operation. The finish should be highly resistant to cracking, chipping and peeling. Experienced canopy makers have used extensive research to develop superior fabrics that resist fading and temperature extremes. A canopy should be coated with Teflon to make them stain resistant and have a regular anti-mildew treatment to reduce unsightly spots and markings. There are special water-resistant coatings available so your canopy can be used in wet weather too.

A Vanity Bench Adds a Romantic and Old World Feel to Your Bedroom Decor

September 24, 2007

One of the easiest ways to add a romantic or "Old World" feel to your bedroom’s décor is by adding a vanity bench or set. By placing one of these vanity benches in your bedroom or dressing space, you can create a design element that cannot be obtained using other types of furniture.

Vanity benches remind us of a past era where it was okay to slow down and to linger over everyday tasks like putting on make up or brushing one’s hair. Today, this luxury can still be part of your day when you place a gorgeous vanity bench in your bedroom or dressing room.

Not only are vanity benches practical, they are also very beautiful and come in a wide range of styles and finishes to coordinate with almost any décor. In fact, you can find a bedroom bench in all of the popular styles including English, Provence and Victorian, just to name a few.

Take for instance the English Country vanity bench, armoire and mirror by Powell furniture. This vanity bench features elegant details like those found in finely crafted furniture. Finished in a lustrous, satin finish, the English vanity bench is designed using fine moldings and classic turnings. The bench of this exquisite set is upholstered with light brown Chenille fabric.

Useful Remodeling Ideas - BEFORE You Get Started!
 by: Michael Johnson

Home remodeling can be done for function or just because the house needs a new look, or a combination of the two. The focus of home remodeling for most homeowners is usually the kitchen or the bathrooms because those are the rooms that add the most value to a home and can become outdated more quickly. Just as in fashion, home décor goes through fads, and typically if bathrooms and kitchens have not been remodeled for ten years or more, it’s obvious!

How many times have we heard the jokes about the ambitious do-it-yourself homeowner who starts project after project, only to stop in the middle and not finish any one of them? Usually the weekend warrior runs out of time, or perhaps money, or maybe he or she realizes that much more has been bitten off than can possibly be chewed. The results are evident - half-finished paintjobs that leave some walls in one color while others sport another; flooring has been exposed but never finished; kitchen cabinets are leaning against the wall yet will not be anchored in for weeks or perhaps months. Sadly, many a homeowner neglected to receive some sound remodeling tips prior to embarking on their tasks. To this end, here are some tips and tricks that will you to get off to a good start, before you actually pick up your checkbook or your tools!

Rock Gardens - A Different Kind of Garden

September 23, 2007

Planting a Rock Garden is a great alternative to the normal flower and vegetable garden.

Where Should This Garden Go:

Typically an ideal spot for a rock garden is on a slope or naturally terraced area with rock formations already in place.

However nature has not blessed every home with this perfect set up which means you will need to create an area from scratch using topsoil and rocks. This can be done most anywhere you choose against a wall or fence, along the house or back of a garage ? this is where I had one of my rock gardens ? having one within an existing garden would also look quite nice.

How Big Should It Be:

This decision of course is going to be entirely up to you taking into consideration how much time you have and how much space you have to work with.

You may have seen pictures in magazines of very elaborate looking rock gardens with waterfalls or streams running through them and paths made up of large flat rock for walking.

However, small, simply designed gardens look just as good and in the long run for many of use will work out better.

Home Buyer Beware ? Know the Signs of Real Estate Market Trouble

September 23, 2007

Lots of articles have appeared recently about the booming real estate market in the United States. Home prices, especially on the East and West coasts, are not only at record levels, but are increasing at record rates. In some areas around Washington, D.C. and San Francisco, home prices have tripled in the last five years. While many homeowners have been enjoying huge increases in their equity, realized when they either sell their home or borrow against it, the market has become increasingly difficult for those trying to buy homes. It may get worse, as there are now some strong signs that the market may be near its peak:

  • The prices of homes in many markets are so high that few buyers can purchase them using traditional mortgages. In Washington, D.C., for instance, 48% of new mortgages are of the interest-only variety, where the buyer pays only the interest on the loan for the first few years. This keeps the payments low enough that the buyer can qualify for the loan. The problem is that the buyer is only paying interest and not actually contributing to the purchase price of the home. The fact that so many buyers are obtaining interest-only loans suggests that prices in those markets may be too high to be sustained.
