Why Choose a Home Improvement Loan?

August 26, 2007

Many people choose to take out home improvement loans so they can give their house a new look before selling.

Home Improvement Loans can help you if you have been considering doing some home improvements to your home and have now decided to look for a loan to turn those home improvement ideas into reality.

Should you wish to make major improvements to your home, how would you fund it? If you have savings, that’s all well and good, but if you don’t have the money put away you may want to borrow it. Should you wish to borrow money specifically to improve your home though, there is an option that it’s worth learning about. This is the home improvement loan.

In some ways, this is a mortgage extension. Your mortgage lender will like to lend you money for this, as you are increasing the value of property that they own until you have paid back your mortgage. They also like the fact that you will have to pay interest on your home improvement loan as well, so they can make more money out of it.

The Beginners Guide To Making a Water Feature

The Beginners Guide To Making a Water Feature
 by: Morgan Bradfield

A water feature is a lovely accent to a landscaped yard or flower garden. It provides a wonderful background for flowers and plants alike as well as providing the soothing sound of trickling water.

Most water features are marble, molded plastic or natural rock. The molded plastic water features are the lightest and easiest to work with but need special attention in climates where the water freezes over the winter. The fiberglass may become brittle and will break easily if hit or knocked. Marble, rock or cement fountains are much more durable in all climates but are considerably heavier and may be harder to install depending on the size you are planning to purchase.

There are smaller freestanding water features that are self-contained and very elaborate in design. Self-contained refers to the fact that the water used in the fountain is collected in a bowl at the bottom of the fountain and recycled continuously. There are also more natural looking water features that circulate a large amount of water into a pond or small pool. These water features or waterfalls are more elaborate and require a longer time to build and install.

Bakers Wine Racks: Sophisticated Style

August 26, 2007

Nothing sends a message of sophistication and style quite the same way that an exquisitely styled baker’s rack complete with a wine rack does. When it comes to home accessories, baker’s racks have long been a favorite of consumers due to their versatility, beauty, and practicality, and the baker’s rack with wine rack stands out as a favorite.

In addition to adding that special element of style, bakers racks are also very practical in that they can be used for extra shelving, storage space and/or as a work center. This multi-purpose nature of the bakers rack is what makes it so popular and the perfect addition for any kitchen or living space.

The ability of the baker’s rack to work well with any décor is also one of the reasons that their use is so prevalent today. Bakers wine racks can be incorporated into the décor of contemporary homes, country cottages, urban dwellings, formal homes and almost any decorating style that you can dream up.

Decorative Drapery Hardware 101

Decorative Drapery Hardware 101
 by: Kathy Iven

Drapery hardware is more than just a means to hang your draperies or curtains; it is also a decorative element for your home. Decorative drapery hardware includes rods, finials, holdbacks, rings, and decorative brackets. Decorative rods can also be traverse. You want to consider the color, finish, and material of the rods. Finials add the perfect touch of elegance, whimsy, humor, and finish to your beautiful window treatments. All of these choices will affect the overall beauty and decorative theme and balance of your home.

Rod

Drapery rods are usually mounted 3” - 4” above the window. If you desire a layered look for your window, choose a double bracket that mounts one rod right in front of another. You can also use a standard curtain rod with a small projection underneath a more decorative rod on the outside to achieve the same look.

Traverse Rod

A traverse rod is a rod with a mechanism by which attached draperies can be drawn with a pull cord. A two-way traverse rod pulls the draperies to the left side and right side of the window. A one-way traverse rod pulls the draperies to either the left or right side of the window. Decorative traverse rods are used with top pleated draperies and pin hooks.

Repairing a Hole in Drywall

Repairing a Hole in Drywall
 by: Andrew Seltz

I received a call this week from my church’s office manager saying we needed to have some repairs made before a visit from the building inspectors next week. One of the repairs was a hole in the drywall where a door handle had punched through the wall. The doorstop had broken and next thing you know there’s a repair job for the Go-To Guy.

Knowing how to do a patch like this is handy even when you’re not repairing damage. The first time I did one was when I installed phone and cable television service into an older home that my parents had purchased. My brother and I cut holes at the top and bottom of the wall to fish through the new wire, and then I patched up the holes and repainted and you’d never know the wall had been repaired. The same goes for running a new electrical wire or anything else that requires getting inside the wall.

Plastic & Resin Patio Furniture ? What You Don?t Know

August 25, 2007

What is the first thought that comes through your mind when you hear "resin patio furniture" or "plastic patio furniture"? Is the word cheap or flimsy? You are not alone. But what you may not know is it is the latest trend and spreading fast.

Today’s manufacturers make resin and plastic patio furniture in such a way that it closely resembles painted wood. There are some that make their plastic Adirondack chairs and resin patio furniture out of Polymer. This material is made of HDPE which is a high density version of polyethylene plastic. It is a hard, strong, and heavy plastic resin that has been purified and UV protected. Other manufacturers use EnviroWood which is a synthetic wood substitute made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and containers. The plastic is permeated with UV stabilized coloring that is consistent throughout.

Plastic Adirondack chairs and furniture have been designed for comfort and are built to last. They are unaffected by sun, rain, snow, even chlorine and saltwater. There is no need to paint or sand your plastic or resin patio furniture or apply a treatment seasonally. It does not rot, warp, crack or splinter. And because the furniture has solid color throughout, you can leave your plastic Adirondack chairs outside year-round because they will not fade.

Why Choose a Remortgage?

August 25, 2007

A remortgage can be used for the purpose of gaining lower interest rates on your mortgage or raising finance through releasing equity.

The term "Remortgage" is used to explain the process of moving your mortgage to a new lender. A different lender may offer a significantly better deal than your existing lender.

A remortgage means you are ending your current mortgage scheme and switching to a new scheme. A remortgage generally involves changing mortgage lenders because most lenders do not generally offer remortgage schemes to existing customers.

Mortgage lenders offer discounted interest rates and other desirable introductory offers to attract mortgage holders to switch to their particular lending institution.

Review your current mortgage. If you feel you are paying excessive rates of interest, compared to other lenders then a remortgage may save on your monthly payments. Alternatively, you may be looking for a way to finance an extension or purchase a new car, you could seek to increase your mortgage and take the extra sum as cash.

Releasing equity is a good way of raising additional finance. If your home has positive equity - its market value is greater than the outstanding mortgage - you can increase the size of your mortgage.

Why You Need A Rug

Why You Need A Rug
 by: Ric Wiley

So, why buy a rug. Well there are many reasons why you should want to choose one and no matter how little you have to spend you should be able to pick something up from a store or carpet dealer and the variety is staggering although you will be limited with less expensive rugs.

So let’s look at some of the reasons you may want a rug on your floor. Well my number one reason for suing rugs is to hide the wear and tear that carpets get with everyday use. Just think about it, when you walk across a room you usually take the same path and this helps to wear out a carpet or leaves it dirtier than the surrounding carpet and cleaning all the carpet only highlights what bits of it were dirty in the first place, well at least I think so.

You may also have a damaged carpet or one that is likely to get damaged. The favorite here is log fires which are always spitting out hot embers. A rug in front of the fire helps protect it. Eventually you will have to throw out the rug but buying a new rug is a lot cheaper and easier than buying a new carpet.

Doing A Home Improvement Project Yourself - Yes Or No?

Doing A Home Improvement Project Yourself - Yes Or No?
 by: Hank Jaworowski

After you have defined your home improvement project, the thought of doing the project by yourself or with a “HANDY” friend or neighbor may cross your mind. DO-IT-YOURSELF projects are a popular trend in the Home Improvement Industry. However, before you put on your tool belt, you should look at all aspects of your project and ask yourself the following 10 questions.

1) Do you have reliable work habits? Do you tend to stress out easily, lose your temper, or become confused under pressure? Will you have the patience and persistence to complete the project in a timely fashion? What will happen if it is not completed in a timely fashion?

2) What will you do if your project goes awry? Remember most contractors are wary about completing and/or redoing someone else’s mistakes, including yours.

3) Are you attempting to do the project yourself for financial reasons? If so, have you looked at the entire cost, including the cost of materials, your time, and the tools you may need to purchase, and then possibly never use again?
